Success story of R Sriram

A young man in the 1980‘s gave up on studying for his engineering degree and landed himself with a job at Landmark. He wished to stick to the job atleast for 3 months. However fate had different plans and this man went onto becoming the co-founder of crossword and gave books their own space. Understanding the need of the undervalued market of readers this man decided fill this market gap. With India Book House putting in initial capital this man commercialized the books by-giving them an attractive shelter. He let the readers have a place where they could laze around in the smell of fresh book pages. With crossword he gave the dieting habit of reading a new life.

Today, the chain that he helped set up is perhaps India's biggest book retailer. Before Crossword, there were well known book shops — Higgin Bothams in Bangalore, Strand in Mumbai, Om in Delhi to name but a few. However, none of them had a national presence. Crossword today is one of the biggest book retailer in India.

When asked about his advice to students aspiring  to become future entrepreneurs, Sriram says: "Use every opportunity to learn. Live a life without regret. Enjoy life and have fun. When you are a student, try to find out what you are passionate about and what excites you the most. The earlier in life you find this, the better it is. Try and see if you would like to build your life and career around it."
